One of the best things in life is combining things you already love into a mashup of something you love even more.
I love puzzling through how to escape binaries in all facets of our lives and I also love giving advice.
And thus is born Life in 4D, the most radically moderate advice column on the internet (she says, modestly).
I’ve learned a lot of hard fought lessons about moderation over the past few years, so sharing them seems like a (possibly) useful thing to do.
But there’s also a selfish motivation: I get to test out my radically moderate framework on a variety of areas of life and see where I might be missing things or where the model needs a little bit of finesse.
Here are a couple things you’ll see in this advice column:
I’ll always start with the radically moderate framework. There’s nothing worse, in my opinion, than arbitrary advice from random people that is based on their idiosyncratic view of the world. At least when I give you advice you’ll know where I got it from, even if you disagree.
I’ll tackle everything from questions about policy and politics to parenting and career goals. The radically moderate framework can be adapted with ease across all these domains. Anything goes!
Given that we’re all in different locations on our shared landscape, I may not provide a concrete solution but instead a map or a set of orienteering tools to help you navigate through on your own.
I’ll lead with humility and honesty. There are a lot of things I am bad at and quite a few things I have not yet achieved radical moderation on (alcohol being exhibit A). I will be honest when a question hits on something I’m struggling with or that I’m still working through. Those might actually be the most interesting answers!
While I hope readers send in radically moderate questions, I’ll also tackle some areas where I personally experience friction or that come up in media and the news.
If you like taking polls, let me know what topics you’re most interested in hearing a radically moderate take on:
Looking forward to engaging in 4D!
As always, let me know what you think in the comments! Drop questions, ideas, or anything else below. And if you like what you read and find my work valuable, please share!
Politics is definitely top of mind at the moment!
But aside from that, I'm always intrigued by good, nuanced advice about productivity. Thanks!
